Fractal Workshop – MIDAS

BDworkshop_I_v4

As a part of the Architecture Foundation Programme, first year students of MIDAS were exposed to a three day workshop on “Fractals 2.0 – One to Many”, from 24th November 2012 – 26th November 2012. Workshop was conducted by Ms Takbir Fatima, an Post Graduate from DRL, AA School, London along with the support of MIDAS faculty. The workshop was build on previous work by MIDAS pioneers in the “Fractals:Whole > Sum of Parts workshop”. Students were given a pre-decided component to experiment with, thus exhibiting the versatility that aggregation alone can give to a basic unit. The main focus is to develop surface curvature using many basic units and exploring curvature through permutation. Students used recyclable components as the basic component and explored it with different connecting rules and deviations and finally arrived at eight options of surface curvature which could be further explored with spatial planning in the Second Phase.
